June 9, 2016—In a recent presentation, BG&S LLP partners Vincent F. Gerbino and Allan S. Hollander called for more action by medical providers in an effort to stem the tide of growing lawsuits for insurance carriers.
The presentation, “How to Use a Declaratory Judgment Action to Deter Medical Provider Fraud,” drew attention to the recent trend of a single claim investigation spurring multiple lawsuits to the audience at the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) and New York Anti-Car Theft & Fraud Association (NYACT) Medical Fraud Seminar in Plainview, NY.
Founded in 1992 through a merger between the National Automobile Theft Bureau and the Insurance Crime Prevention Institute, the NICB is the nation’s premier not-for-profit organization dedicated exclusively to fighting insurance fraud and crime, and is the only organization in the United States that convenes the collective resources needed to prevent, detect and deter these crimes.
NYACT, founded in 1978, was established to promote cooperation between the insurance industry, law enforcement, and other interested entities in the fight to reduce the escalating cost of vehicle theft and insurance fraud. The Association consists of all segments of the insurance industry including self-insurers, law enforcement and the regulators.
